With a multifaceted career spanning journalism, law, business administration, and change management, Kamla Rampersad de Silva stands as an embodiment of versatility and professional excellence. As the current Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute, her expertise shapes the standards and best practices of corporate governance across the region.
Kamla’s professional journey began in 1985 as a journalist, amassing 14 years of experience in newspapers, radio, and television. Her quest for knowledge led her to the legal field, attending the Hugh Wooding Law School and earning her call to the bar in 2001.
Subsequently, she expanded her portfolio by acquiring a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Institute of Business at the University of the West Indies, now known as the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business (Lok Jack GSB), in 2004.
Beyond her legal and business training, Kamla is renowned as a transformational leader and a skilled Change Management Consultant. In a pioneering role as a Transformation Manager within the public sector, she led the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Registrar General’s Department in a comprehensive, award-winning overhaul. Her leadership transformed the Department’s service delivery with innovations such as same-day issuance of computerised birth certificates and online record searches, earning her the Prime Minister’s Award for Innovation in 2006 and the Prime Minister’s Award for Service Excellence in 2007.
Kamla’s dedication to professional development and knowledge sharing took her to the educational realm. She has lectured for MBA programs in Trinidad, Guyana, and the Lok Jack Global School of Business, shaping the minds of future business leaders.
Her influence extends to the Project Management Institute Southern Caribbean Chapter (PMISCC) as well. As a board member since 2014 and Vice President of Technical Sessions until 2019, Kamla volunteers her time for her project management colleagues. She rejoined the board in 2020 as Vice President of Membership and then moved on to Vice President of Finance in 2022, a post she currently holds.
Certified in the ADKAR methodology by Prosci and the Change Management Learning Centre, Kamla frequently shares her insights at global conferences. Her presentations on change management and governance have graced the stages of the Association of Change Management Practitioners (ACMP) global conferences and the PMISCC biennial conferences since 2011, as well as the international conferences of the Human Resource Management Association of Trinidad and Tobago (HRMATT).In July 2019, Kamla stepped into her current role as the CEO of the Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute, where she seeks to inspire transformative change in corporate governance practices throughout the Caribbean region.
