Your Risk Management Immune System: How Healthy is it?
We can all agree that today’s work environment is more complex, volatile, and unpredictable than ever before. As General Stanley McChrystal puts it in his book RISK, “Your risk immune system enables you to anticipate, identify, analyze, and respond effectively to the constant possibility that things may not go as planned.”
The question, therefore, is, how strong is your organizations’ Risk Immune System?
In an age where risk is more interconnected than ever and chaos is always on the horizon, it’s essential, especially for leaders and decision-makers, to cultivate the habit of mind needed to assess and respond more quickly to the risks that will continually emerge around us.
With this in mind, I propose that upskilling in risk management, behavioral science, and innovative thinking (whether systems-based, lateral, or adversarial) should be a key component of any organization’s strategic plan.
After all, “To study risk is to reconsider what we think we know about being prepared.” Isn’t that the essence of resilience?
Stay proactive, stay anticipatory, stay resilient, and let’s navigate the challenges ahead.
